STARLIGHT CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION

The Starlight Foundation was formed in a small office in Los Angeles by actress Emma Samms and her cousin, film producer Peter Samuelson in 1983, they organised a small group of entertainment based executives to start granting the wishes of critically, chronically and terminally ill children.

The need for the expansion was soon realised, Starlight offices were opened in other parts of the U.S and soon spread internationally.

The Starlight foundation of Australia was established in 1988 by a group of prominent Sydney businessmen and women and was later renamed Starlight Children's Foundation. Starlight is entirely funded within Australia for Australian children and operates independently of Starlight International and has no assistance from the Australian Government.

Since the start of wish granting 10 years ago, the Starlight Children's Foundation has completed over 1,500 wishes for Australian children, this year (1998) they expect to grant 300 more children's wishes. By granting wishes for very sick kids, Starlight hopes to provide a positive and enriching experience for the children and their families, to provide an opportunity for quality family time and a chance to reduce family stress.
